I have picked pennies up off of the street, the sidewalk, parking lots and hallways and floors of stores for years. Several years ago, I found a 1963 penny in the gutter in front of my house. From that point on, I saved the pennies that I found and, more importantly, I used them as memory joggers, making myself recall something from my own life that corresponded to the year the penny I found was minted.
I’ve tried many ways to share this project with others. I taped them to journal pages and wrote notes underneath. I typed memories on square pages of paper, attaching the penny to the top in hopes that I’d mount them all one day. It wasn’t until I got an iPod Touch, with its built-in camera, that I figured out the way that I wanted to go with this idea. And so I started taking pictures of each penny as I found it. As I got a few pictures of a few pennies, I decided to put this blog together. I will keep it going until I reach 100. 100 Pennies, 100 thoughts. I hope you enjoy the trip with me.
