1978 – Junior high school. I lose my retainer. Twice. I love the Bee Gees. I have my first boyfriend and tell myself that it’s important.
1978 – I take driver’s ed. On the first early morning of driving with Mr. Batson and a couple of other students, I’m asked to go outside and start the car so that it can warm up before we go (it’s winter). Up until this point, I’ve never driven an automatic car. I put the car in neutral, start it, and leave it running. No brake. Fortunately, no car plowing through the gym, either, just a firm lesson to “leave the car in park.”
