1997 – A transition year. I leave behind a career as a clergy person and take the time to figure out where to go next. To pass the time, I train for my first marathon. I run and run and run and run. And when I cross the finish line, I know I’m going back to school.
2005 – January 1, 2005, we wake up in our new apartment in our new town. We walk to the grocery store to buy some bagels and coffee, and we get ready to begin a new chapter in our lives.
1981 – August 29, 1981 – My parents drive away from the parking lot at Godwin Hall. I sit in front of Frederickson Hall, feeling pretty alone, frightened, and excited all at once. My mother will later remind me that leaving her youngest to start college is not really the best birthday present she could get. But we begin life away from home, never to really return.
